Arbitrator: Alaska Air violated contract

Little Caesar pizza franchisee Gulshan Kumar has opened the firm's first Little Caesars pizza facility in Anchorage at 2001 E. 88th Ave. A former pizza restaurant manager, Kumar said he plans to grow the Little Caesars brand in Anchorage by opening three additional stores over the next two years.

Gov. Sarah Palin has signed a declaration of disaster emergency for northern and Interior regions hit by widespread flooding, promising to continue to do everything possible to protect the lives and safety of impacted residents. The declaration of disaster emergency gives local officials and state responders the ability to continue coordinated response efforts, Palin said, as she signed the document in Fairbanks Aug. 4, authorizing state agencies to use disaster recovery programs to help repair impacted infrastructure, facilities and homes.

Teacher turnover in Alaska in 2007 mirrors 1999 percentages
University of Alaska Anchorage researches say statewide turnover among teachers in 2007 was about 14 percent, roughly the same as it was in 1999. That lack of change comes after years of efforts by Alaska's state government, universities and school districts to reduce turnover, especially in rural areas. The statistics come from the latest annual update on teacher turnover by the UAA Institute of Social and Economic Research.
